Smarter lubrication drives plant reliability
27/03/2026After nearly four decades of working in FIFO roles across Australia and overseas, Lubrication Technician Jackson has extensive experience in plant maintenance. Now, he’s driving innovative initiatives that enhance our process plant’s availability and reliability at Kathleen Valley.

Jackson and his back-to-back, David, recently implemented The Wireless Lubrication Project, a leading-edge innovation which wirelessly delivers an automated lubrication system across the plant. The system uses Perma technology to enable remote monitoring and management of the plant’s lubrication points, reducing cross-contamination of lubricants as well as airborne and particle contamination, while significantly improving workflow delivery and efficiency. “Perma, both in Melbourne and Perth, have been phenomenal with their support,” Jackson shared.
By monitoring lubrication through an online platform that provides real-time visibility and forward planning, assets are lubricated consistently, with precise timing and dosage. When a changeout is required, the system provides a notification ten days prior, allowing the maintenance team to plan ahead, rather than react.
“With the system being managed by an online platform, you don’t have to walk up to an asset, then walk back to do a changeout. You can take the replacement lubricants with you, saving time and energy,” Jackson said.
Jackson credits the sense of team at Liontown for supporting the innovations we’ve implemented on the plant. “They’re passionate, work together well and supportive. The crew camaraderie here is something special. Everyone is like family,” he says.
Well done to Jackson, David and our Kathleen Valley Maintenance team for implementing another initiative that enhances operational efficiencies through modern innovations and forward-thinking.
